The XXI Edition of the Commonwealth Games will take place from April 5 to 15, 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia (https://www.gc2018.com/). More than 6,600 athletes and team officials from 70 nations are expected.

In order to protect the legitimacy of the Games, a pre-Games Anti-Doping Taskforce was established by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and Australian Sports-Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA). The Taskforce, whose membership includes the CGF, ASADA, GOLDOC, International Federations and Regional and National Anti-Doping Organisations, aims to detect and prevent doping in the lead-up to the Games by sharing intelligence and conducting testing on prospective athletes.

This webinar will provide an overview of the Taskforce objectives, key activities in the planning phase (including the development of a risk assessment and incorporation of intel), challenges observed and opportunities for future Taskforces.

Simon Henry is the Director Intelligence at the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA), a position he has occupied since January 2015 on secondment from the Australian Federal Police. Simon has been a Federal Agent with the Australian Federal Police for sixteen years, and fulfilled a range of investigative and intelligence roles concerning a variety of transnational crime types.

Simon utilises his policing experience to support the integrity of sport in Australia. As the head of ASADA’s operational intelligence function, Simon has forged closer operational partnerships with Australian law enforcement agencies, regulators, national and international sports organisations. Those partnerships have led to greater information sharing opportunities and the increased detection of anti-doping rule violations in Australia.

Simon co-chaired the 14 member Anti-Doping Taskforce in the lead-up to the 2018 Commonwealth Games and led ASADA’s Operations Centre Manager during the event.

Simon holds a Honours degree in Psychology and a Masters degree of Leadership and Management of Policing.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
