Dear Colleagues,

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) invites stakeholders to participate in a consultation process for the 2021 Technical Letters (TLs), which have been revised to align with the 2021 World Anti-Doping Code (Code); the 2021 International Standard for Laboratories (ISL) (v.11.0); and, the other International Standards that are set to come into force on 1 January 2021.

All stakeholders are therefore invited to review the following TLs and make recommendations by 30 October 2020, using WADA’s online consultation platform, WADAConnect. These revised TLs will be subsequently presented for approval to WADA’s Executive Committee.

In these versions of the TLs, some sections have been updated for consistency with the revised ISL (v.11.0), including updated terms and definitions, and further clarifications have been introduced, where relevant, to facilitate interpretation. For some TLs, further clarifications regarding the analysis and reporting requirements are now provided and sections have been reorganized to facilitate reading and interpretation.

Under the ISL, WADA’s Technical Letters provide specific direction to WADA-accredited laboratories; WADA-approved laboratories for the Athlete Biological Passport; and, other stakeholders on particular issues regarding the analysis, interpretation and reporting of results for specific prohibited substance(s) and/or prohibited method(s) and/or on the application of specific laboratory procedures.
