WADA PUBLISHES NEW TECHNICAL DOCUMENT TD2019APMU
Montreal, 17 October 2018

Dear Colleagues,

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announces the publication of the new Technical Document TD2019APMU - Athlete Passport Management Unit (APMU) Requirements and Procedures and its related Frequently Asked Questions.

The TD2019APMU aims to harmonize effective Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) management by APMUs by defining the roles and responsibilities of the APMU; providing requirements for the structure of APMUs; outlining an APMU approval process; and, defining specific procedures for ABP management by APMUs.

Effective 1 March 2019, applications for WADA APMU approval will be considered by WADA; though, expressions of interest and preliminary discussions are certainly welcome before then.

In 2019, Anti-Doping Organizations should ensure that the APMU with which they work has applied for and obtained WADA approval and that experts who review ABPs under their custody meet the requirements of the TD2019APMU.

It should also be noted that, existing APMUs should prepare to apply for and obtain approval by 1 January 2020, as ABP management by an approved APMU will be mandatory as of that date.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact athletepassport@wada-ama.org.

Best regards,

World Anti-Doping Agency
